Rubi Chakravarti - Theatre Afficianado, International Stand-Up Comedian & Performing Artist, Actor, Columnist, Writer, Corporate Nuturer and Activist. Internationally validated by BBC as one of the Top 100 Women to have made a difference in the year 2014 and selected by Salt magazine as among the 100 of the greatest female change agents of 2015 - visionary women who are shattering the glass ceiling, changing innumerable lives for the better, and having a positive influence all around the world.

 

Rubi Chakravarti - Rubi Chakravarti was a full time mother and wife till she turned 40. That’s when she decided to become an actor. Rubi has in the short span of 8 years managed to carve a niche for herself as a highly respected actor with an inimitable style of her own. She has acted in innumerable plays written and directed by some of the most respected directors in India. She has done numerous plays all over India mostly written by Asian playwrights. She has also had a play especially; written for her by an award winning Indian playwright Ms. Poile Sengupta. Among the most notable directors she has acted and traveled with in India are Mahesh Dattani, Ashish Sen, Arundhati Raja and many more.

She has also acted in four cross over films which have won accolades internationally. She has just completed shooting for a Bollywood film.

She has always been the proverbial ''funny girl'' and  got into doing stand up comedy more as a lark and with 'not so gentle persuasions tactics' by my family and friends.’ Stand-up'' is at a fledging state in India and along with wanting to extend her repertoire she also wanted to raise comedy to another level. She is also the only professional female stand up comedian in India.

Her repertoire is wide and varied. She has done numerous launches and is a familiar face in many advertisement films and still ads. She likes to describe herself as a consummate performer, entertainer and artiste and believes in extending her repertoire to all areas of entertainment.

She has been felicitated as a “Woman Achiever” by Bangalore Club on the occasion of “International Women’s Day” and by Titan Industries for her contribution to Entertainment, Arts and Theater.

She was chairperson & moderator for The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Women's Day.

She was one of the 100 women invited by the prestigious British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), London to participated in their Global 100 women conference in 2013 which included a series of interviews and a workshop with the world renowned comedienne Kate Smurthwaite.

This year too she has be adjudged as 'one the 100 most influential women in the world who made a difference in 2014', an honour that is given by the BBC to women who have created a niche for themselves and are motivators, mentors and inspiring for other women.

She has been rated #78 by Salt magazine who have selected 100 of the greatest female change agents of 2015 – visionary women who are shattering the glass ceiling, changing innumerable lives for the better, and having a positive influence all around the world. She has worked with numerous charities and this has always been a central focus of her life. She also run workshops on empowerment and working with women and young adults has always been her calling and passion. To quote her ‘’any fool can make money but it’s only the committed that make a difference.’’

Call her a dreamer, but she truly believes that ultimately she would like to be cause in the matter, that will eventually result in a critical mass of people who will make a difference.
